Firmware is a small craft, and a hidden one. It is written once, sealed inside a machine, and never again seen by the one it serves. I make and prove such work for the controls that carry folk who cannot walk, and I have come to think its worth is told not by what it does but by what it never does: it does not falter, it does not stall, it does not leave anyone waiting by the roadside for help that is slow in coming. That is the whole of my trade, and I am glad of it.
Hello, I am Alexander! I make software that tricks silicon to work for you.
I was drawn to engineering by the power of turning ideas into something real. I studied at Massey University, completing a Bachelor of Engineering (Hons) majoring in Mechatronics. After graduating, I moved into Embedded Software, where I get to use my skills to help the people and community around me.
I'm currently open to junior engineer roles where I can keep building on my embedded software and mechatronics experience.
Develop and verify firmware for STM32-based mobility control systems, including the LINX Rehab platform. Built hardware-in-the-loop test jigs to validate software against target hardware earlier in development, and designed a Python GUI tool for dynamometer testing on electric motors as an independent project.
Investigated the feasibility of using Acconeer radar sensors for a safety system on Frogparking's products.
Organised outreach events in New Zealand as part of TRACES' International Outreach efforts.
Published research comparing synthetic and natural fibre composites in the TRACES journal, and presented the work at the TRACES 2025 conference.

A group project prototyping a highly automated coil winding machine to replace a fictional company's manual process.
